Leigh Withers (writer/director)

is a filmmaker based in New York and New Jersey. Raised as an Army brat, she is drawn to stories that explore the American experiment, identity, and the tensions between myth and reality. She is currently developing Scenes From an American Parking Lot, a short-film triptych.

After graduating from the Drama program at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, Withers performed in New York's downtown experimental theater scene, including productions of Richard Foreman’s The Universe at the Ontological-Hysteric Theatre and The Picture by Eugène Ionesco at Classic Stage Company, while also working in production on independent films. She continues to develop her screenwriting and filmmaking projects through the support of Sundance Collab and her artistic community at McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, New Jersey.

She founded Films Are Magic (F.A.M.) to create ensemble-driven work developed in collaboration with artists from both her literal and found creative families.
