Molly sets out with her young adult children on a family road trip to Historical Washington Crossing Park to fulfill her patriotic 80-year-old mother’s birthday wish. The supposed plan is to meet Billy, their revolutionary war private tour guide at the crack of dawn. However, Molly’s mother Betsy has ulterior motives for an intervention about Molly’s future, leaving Molly revolted by her mom’s stubborn refusal to evolve. Meanwhile, Molly’s reluctant kids are frustrated by their family’s uncritical reverence for history and the intergenerational dysfunction affecting them all.
